Acme Mercantile opened its doors in an historic brownstone building 10 years ago to fill an ever-widening gap left behind by the loss of many of our \u201cuseful\u201d stores in downtown Ann Arbor. We lost our hardware store, office supply store, department store and drugstore, all of which were independently owned longtime fixtures of the downtown. What we had accomplished was the world\u2019s smallest department store in 900 square feet. Acme Mercantile supplied downtown residents, workers and destination shoppers with everything from novelties and toilet plungers to nylon stockings and dog food.<\/p>\n
Now ACME enters a new phase of life as an online store and vending at car shows such as the annual Detroit Autorama and Sins of Steel every June. Stay tuned for other exciting ACME events!<\/p>\n
